Lima Escape Camping & Glamping – GREEN KEY 2023
Green Key ID number GK12152, Certificate issued 27th of June 2023
Sustainability is a key point in the entire venture Lima Escape Camping & Glamping. Since the beginning of the transition process from basic campsite to leader in its sector, Lima Escape’s business plan has been committed to keeping the campsite as natural as possible.
The revolutionary idea of recycling and reusing second-hand shipping containers to create their famous tree house bungalows was first applied in 2014 and subsequently, in 2022, for the outdoor swimming pool.
Respect for environmental matters has always been part of the Lima Escape team’s values and philosophy, as well as a company strategy based on lower consumption.
This very commitment of establishing an Environmental Management System in line with the PDCA cycle has enabled the Entre Ambos-os-Rios Campsite managed by Lima Escape – Empreendimentos Turísticas, Lda. to be certified with regard to the environment.
In June, Lima Escape Camping & Glamping was honored with the GREEN KEY 2023 International Environmental Award.
Since the start of the improvement project at the Entre Ambos-os-Rios campsite, the Lima Escape team has always been concerned with installing equipment to control and reduce consumption.
Responsible consumption
To ensure responsible consumption, over the course of the year the public lighting was reorganized by zone, either in the campsite or in common spaces:
• Bungalows area
• Colored Bungalows area
• Caravan and motorhome area
• Campsite entrance area
• And areas for seasonal use:
• Small tents area
• Medium and large tent areas
• Glamping tent area
Thus, in winter, we optimized the paths with public lighting and significantly reduced energy consumption.
All 66 public lighting posts received LED bulbs, as did the night lights outside the public toilets and the motion sensors in the various lighting areas, including inside the restrooms.
The campsite now has a charging station for electric cars.
A feasibility study is currently underway for the installation and purchase of photovoltaic panels to generate green energy for self-consumption through the installation of solar panels.
Between 2017-2018, investments were made in the gas supply network, consisting of 500 meters of piping and the subsequent replacement of bottled gas with a bulk gas tank, resulting in a reduction in consumption and associated costs of up to 200%.
Regarding water consumption reduction, an action plan has been created and is being implemented:
• professional training and awareness-raising for the entire team to acquire basic knowledge of how to save water and the importance of these good practices;
• the application of flow restrictors and auto stop taps in public toilets, dual flush systems in cisterns and permanent checking of water losses at the various supply points;
• the placement of notices limiting the amount of hot water in Lima Escape Glamping’s accommodation / bungalows, to make guests aware of good practices for saving resources and reducing consumption.
Lima Escape – Empreendimentos Turísticos, Lda. favors the use of renewable resources and less dangerous substances for the environment, promoting environmental education and communication in all its environmental policies. This measure also includes the preference for consumables with an environmental certification, namely: toilet paper, detergents and other similar products.
Environment
Regional tourist information is available at check-in, including maps of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, regional tourist maps and the entire environmental surroundings of Lima Escape Camping & Glamping.
Likewise, information is provided on the different options for discovering the Peneda-Gerês National Park through jeep and quad tours, designated walking trails and existing cycle paths, which also includes information on Good Visiting Practices.
With a preference for local and regional businesses, Lima Escape – Empreendimentos Turísticos, Lda. provides information on local tourist activities, such as renting out bikes, kayaks, Stand Up Paddle boards and boats with electric navigation and canyoning.
Waste
Lima Escape – Empreendimentos Turísticos, Lda, copiously practices waste separation, with a minimum of 4 categories, in accordance with national legislation. Recyclable waste is sent to the ecopoint and non-recyclable waste to the undifferentiated waste container.
The recycling bin is clearly visible at the site entrance, in order to raise awareness among Camping & Glamping guests of the need to separate waste and recycle correctly.
Lima Bar
Lima Bar’s menu consists of appropriate portions, aimed at tackling food waste and using resources and raw materials rationally in order to reduce the negative environmental impact.
Earth Hour
In 2023, Lima Escape – Empreendimentos Turísticos, Lda. decided to take part in Earth Hour, currently recognized as the world’s largest environmental campaign. The symbolic action – turning off the camping’s lights – is a moment to raise awareness of the responsible consumption of natural resources, both among our guests and our staff.
Equal pay
In Portugal, women still earn an average of 13.1% less than men. Lima Escape – Empreendimentos Turísticos, Lda., as a company created and led by a woman, has always defended the values of equal pay.
On November 14, 2023 – National Equal Pay Day – Lima Escape – Empreendimentos Turísticos, Lda. was distinguished by the Commission for Equality in Labor and Employment – CITE, for its good practices in promoting Equal Pay for Women and Men for equal work or work of equal value, with the Equal Pay Seal 2023.
