PNPG – Peneda Geres Waterfalls and Lagoons

Located inside Peneda-Gerês National Park, Lima Escape is surrounded by some of the most beautiful waterfalls and natural lagoons in North Portugal, making it the perfect base to explore the best swimming spots and nature experiences in Geres.

There are four lagoons near of Lima Escape Camping & Glamping. The closest one, designated as L1, is located only 800 meters from the Lima Escape. It’s a quiet place, easily accessible and with a suitable area for children and even babies. A true paradise found! The second nearest lagoon is located about 2 kilometers away from Lima Escape and is a bit bigger. The third lagoon is located about 6,5 kilometers away, being perfectly round and presents you the experience of staying under a beautiful waterfall. Finally, the fourth lagoon is located about 7 kilometers away from Lima Escape and is a natural pool with a stunning 10-meter waterfall. Amazing!

CHÃO D’ALÉM

Distance from the park: 0.8km

Route: this is the closest lagoon and to get there just turn left at the crossroad at the national road and then turn right 70 meters after the bridge. There is a wooden sign next to the entry of a dirt path leading into the eucalypts. The lagoon is at the end of this path.

Featuring: A big lagoon, a great place for families.

POÇO DE FROUFE

Distance from the park: 2.1km

Route: To get to the 2nd lagoon, just turn left at the crossroad with the national road, pass the bridge, pass the 1st lagoon sign and keep going about another 300 meters (on the national road). Turn right at the first crossroad with the national road. Keep going until you get to a small bridge and you will find the lagoon under it.

Featuring: Rather big lagoon and a bit deeper than the 1st one

POÇO DA CARCERELHA

Distance from the park: 6.4km

Route: To reach the 3rd lagoon, we recommend taking a car. So, straight ahead at the crossroad with the national road, keep going all the way on the main road in the direction to Ermida. You will pass several hamlets and then you will see the wooden sign on the road, being that the lagoon will be on your left side.

Coordinates: 41º48′ 44.44″N, 8º15’43.57″O

Featuring: Quite a big lagoon with a waterfall, a nice place to spend the morning with the family.

POÇO NEGRO

Distance from the park: 6.8km

Route: You will need a car to get to the 4th lagoon. Drive straight ahead at the crossroad with the national road, keep going all the way on the main road in the direction to Ermida. You will pass several hamlets and then you will see the wooden sign on the road for the 3rd lagoon and after some tighter turns, you will get to a bridge. The lagoon is under the bridge. Please, be careful walking down to the lagoon as it could be slippery. Use proper footwear like sneakers or hiking boots.

Featuring: A large lagoon with a 10-meter waterfall and for diving daredevils.

POÇO DA GOLA

Poço da Gola is close to Lindoso, a beautiful and widely visited historic village of the Serra Amarela, the smallest mountain of Peneda-Geres National Park. The easiest way to get there is to park your car next to Café Restaurant Mó, in Parada, Ponte da Barca. Just before the café, on your right you will see the sign Lindoso, with the indication of the access to the watermill path. Just follow the path and you will get to an old watermill and a small bridge, where you will find the natural pool ( 700 meters walking distance).
